MSU students safe in Japan, international students worry for family, friends
Seven MSU students in Japan with the Japan Center for Michigan Universities are safe after an 8.9 offshore earthquake and resulting tsunami hit the country, said Stephanie Motschenbacher, the communications director for MSU International Studies and Programs. Motschenbacher said there are no MSU study abroad trips currently in Japan, however, MSU has 79 international students from the country. MSU sent an e-mail to the 79 students this morning expressing concern for their situation and encouraging them to call the office if they need any assistance, Motschenbacher said.
