Team gains consistency with new surge in offensive play

Already the best defensive team in the Big Ten, the MSU women’s basketball team finally is starting to find its way around the offensive side of the ball. The Spartans started off the season winning games, but not consistently scoring baskets the way they wanted to, with clean passes into the post for easy layups rather than risky outside shots.

Johnson providing spark, making impact

Since entering the starting lineup five games ago, redshirt freshman forward Lykendra Johnson has proven extremely effective for the MSU women’s basketball team, using her size and athleticism to bother the other team defensively on the wing.

BASKETBALL

Morgan needs to sit until fully healthy

If you haven’t heard or couldn’t tell, MSU forward Raymar Morgan has been reeling the past couple weeks. The junior has been hampered by a nagging case of the flu since the middle of the month, and it has severely affected his play in each of the past three games.

Season over for players involved in U-M incident

MSU head coach Rick Comley issued season-ending suspensions to two players following an incident Saturday when the MSU hockey team faced off against Michigan at Yost Ice Arena. Comley suspended sophomore forward Corey Tropp and freshman forward Andrew Conboy after the two attacked U-M’s Steve Kampfer in the final minutes of U-M’s 5-3 win.

Sophomores step up, lead way in win against OSU

Throughout the season, players on the MSU men’s basketball team have said that on any given day, a different player can lead the Spartans to victory. As sophomore guard Kalin Lucas was held scoreless in the first half Sunday and junior forward Raymar Morgan continued to struggle with flu-like symptoms, the Spartans unleashed another dangerous scorer on their roster.

U-M sweeps season series

With Saturday’s 5-3 loss and Friday’s 6-2 defeat to No. 8 Michigan, the MSU hockey team lost five straight to the Wolverines for the first time ever in a single season. And to make matters worse, the Spartans now sit in last place in the CCHA.

MSU, U-M behavior bad all around

I understand the Michigan vs. MSU rivalry is one of the most heated rivalries in all of sports. But what happened on Saturday night both on and off the ice leaves reason for die-hard fans of both schools to hang their heads.
