The junior running back powered the No. 13 MSU football team to a 17-13 victory over No. 24 Boise State, finishing with 44 carries for 210 yards and two touchdowns — both career highs — in a smashmouth game that wasn’t easy on the eyes.

Field hockey rallies to defeat Stanford

After a first half that saw 11th ranked Stanford basically do anything and everything it wanted, MSU field hockey easily could have been down more than one goal. But junior goalkeeper Molly Cassidy stepped up in the first half, before the rest of the team joined her in the second half, as the Spartans took home a 2-1 victory.

Women's soccer puts academics first

With classes starting up, the MSU women’s soccer team only has one game this week, specifically so they can focus on getting settled into the regimen of the new school year. Head coach Tom Saxton said the team prides itself on having a good grade-point average, or GPA.

Maxwell ready to take reins of starting quarterback position

For the first time since Oct. 10, 2009, someone not named Kirk Cousins will take the first snap of the game for MSU’s season opener against Boise State on Friday night. After waiting in the reserves for three seasons, junior quarterback Andrew Maxwell is ready to take the reins and continue the success of his predecessor.

Soccer team works to regain momentum after losses

The team looked to be off to a good start as the preseason drew to a close, defeating Duke 1-0 and tying Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne, 1-1. But those two MSU preseason goals are the last they’ve managed.

Volleyball team improves weaknesses, finds strengths

With the completion of the annual Spartan Showcase tournament this past weekend at Jenison Field House, volleyball season officially is under way. The Spartans dominated, much as they have in the past, earning their ninth-straight Spartan Showcase title by defeating McNeese State, Youngstown State and Eastern Kentucky in the title match.
