After being named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for three straight weeks, senior running back Javon Ringer wasn’t able to earn a fourth one this week. Ringer racked up 198 yards on 44 carries and recorded a touchdown in the Spartans’ 42-29 victory over Indiana on Saturday, but didn’t do enough to win over Northwestern quarterback C.J. Bacher.
There’s nothing more exciting you could possibly be doing on a Sunday afternoon than watching the MSU’s women’s soccer team. And yes, I’m serious. That’s written correctly.

The No. 10 MSU field hockey team survived two tough games this weekend, beating two top-20 teams and a tough road trip to extend its winning streak to six. The Spartans beat No. 16 Ohio State 3-1 on Friday and No. 20 California 3-2 in overtime Saturday to move to 9-1 for the season and 1-0 in the Big Ten.
In what has become a season-long trend, the MSU football team went into Saturday’s game convinced that special teams would make or break the game. Although MSU’s special teams saw its fair share of dropped punts and missed blocking assignments against Indiana, junior kicker Brett Swenson and sophomore punter Aaron Bates did their share to ensure MSU’s 42-29 win.
Rough and tough, bang ‘em up soccer. The MSU women’s soccer team wouldn’t have it any other way as they proved to be more physical Sunday afternoon in a 4-0 win over Iowa at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field.
Drawing more than 9,000 fans at Breslin Center during the weekend, the MSU volleyball team set the school’s single-game attendance record while picking up a pair of 3-1 victories over Ohio State and No. 21 Michigan. Aided by more than 1,500 students, many coming from the Izzone campout at Munn Field, the goal to “Bust Breslin” was achieved when the team drew 5,335 fans to Saturday’s matchup against U-M.
The women’s tennis team started its season this weekend with the 19th annual Spartan Invitational. MSU played host to seven other schools — Akron, Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Louisville, Marshall and Toledo — in a round-robin tournament where each school played three other schools.
With a record crowd supporting them, the MSU volleyball team upset No. 21 Michigan on Saturday at Breslin Center 3-1.
