In their annual meet, the Jan Howard Memorial Flip for a Cure, the Spartans will wear pink leotards and have silent auction items at the competition to raise money for the cause, which head coach Kathie Klages said is very close to the Spartans’ hearts. “Jan Howard was the mother of one of my former gymnasts who I coached here at Michigan State … so it’s very touching for us to have this to remember Jan, who passed away in ‘97 from breast cancer,” Klages said.
