Despite the absence of a Big Ten conference in college hockey, the Big Ten rivalries still exist. During the holiday weekend, CCHA schools MSU and No. 8 Michigan travel to WCHA schools Wisconsin and Minnesota for the annual College Hockey Showcase.

Led by a career-high 28 points from senior guard Kalin Lucas, the No. 2 MSU men’s basketball disposed of a pesky Chaminade team on the way to an 82-74 win in the opening round of the Maui Invitational.

Dantonio sticks up for Spartans despite polls
Mark Dantonio is a little disappointed in how forgetful fans and pollsters seem to be this season when it comes to his No. 11 MSU football team. Back in the first week of Big Ten play, the Spartans defeated No. 5 Wisconsin, 34-24, in dominant fashion. But the Badgers are six spots ahead of MSU in the latest Associated Press poll.

Spartans putting sweep behind them for rare midweek game
The No. 17 MSU hockey team has a chance to redeem itself after being swept at Notre Dame, with a game against Ferris State at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Munn Ice Arena. The game is free to students with an MSU ID.

Clutch plays on special teams have been a key component to the success of the No. 11 MSU football team this season. And Saturday’s 35-31 comeback win against Purdue at Spartan Stadium was no different.

Beach, basketball await No. 2 Spartans in Maui
The MSU men’s basketball program hasn’t won an early season tournament since the Pearl Harbor Classic in 1998. The Spartans will try to break that streak at the 2010 Maui Invitational, which begins Monday.
