Last-minute goals push Spartans past Lake Superior State, 4-2
It looked like a bad bounce would add to the late-period scoring woes once again for the No. 16 MSU hockey team. On a puck clearing attempt by senior defenseman Matt Crandell, the puck bounced off Lake Superior State forward Kellan Lain and in to the net to tie up the game with a little more than three minutes to play, sending a wave of exasperation through Munn Ice Arena.

Women's basketball falls to Minnesota, 71-65
It had been two years since the MSU women’s basketball team (12-7 overall, 4-2 Big Ten) lost back-to-back games, but Minnesota (11-9, 3-3) snapped the streak, beating the Spartans 71-65 in the teams’ only meeting this regular season.

Brandan Kearney was one of few players to come out of Tuesday’s 60-59 loss at Michigan. The freshman guard hit two key 3-pointers and made several hustle plays and kept a solid head on his shoulders.

Appling beat in matchup against Wolverines' Burke
At the MSU men’s basketball press conference on Monday prior to Tuesday’s game against No. 20 Michigan, Draymond Green indicated the player who came out on top in the Keith Appling Burke matchup would likely win the game. And the Burke-led Wolverines walked away with the 60-59 victory on the shoulders of the freshman’s 20-point performance. Appling scored 10 points and dished out five assists but struggled to contain Burke and finished with four fouls.

Tennis' Bogatov earns co-Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors
MSU tennis junior Denis Bogatov was named co-Big Ten Athlete of the Week along with Northwestern’s Josh Graves, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. The Gurnee, Ill., native won the honor after going 2-0 in both singles and doubles matches against Bradley, Morehead State and Wright State at home this past weekend. Bogatov’s performance helped the Spartans notch victories over all three schools and improve to 3-0 on the season. The award marks Bogatov’s first Big Ten Athlete of the Week nod of his career, and the Spartans’ first since Aaron Pfister was named Athlete of the Week on Nov.
