It was another tough-luck Spartan loss on Sunday afternoon. MSU (13-12 overall, 6-8 Big Ten) could not slow down white-hot No. 4 Wisconsin (22-2 overall, 13-1 Big Ten) at Jenison Field House, losing in straight sets, 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 22-25).

New core for men's basketball potentially emerged against St. Cloud State
The men's basketball team is in a stage of transition. The team must replace the production of former stars Adreian Payne, Keith Appling, and Gary Harris. Together, the three former MSU players combined to average 44.3 points of the team's 75.5 total average in the 2013-14 season.

Valentine powers MSU basketball to 101-46 win over St. Cloud State in final exhibition match
Behind a strong performance by junior guard Denzel Valentine, the MSU basketball team cruised to an easy 101-46 victory over St. Cloud State on Friday night, finishing exhibition season with a 2-0 record. Valentine had a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in 25 minutes of action. Senior guard Travis Trice led the Spartans with 20 points, and junior center Matt Costello and senior forward Branden Dawson each had double-doubles — 12 and 10 for Costello, and 13 and 10 for Dawson.

Minnesota defeats volleyball at Jenison Field House in four sets
The women’s volleyball team will have to wait at least a couple more days to win its 750th game in program history. MSU (13-11 overall, 6-7 Big Ten) could not handle Minnesota (15-9 overall, 5-8 Big Ten) at Jenison Field House on Friday night, losing in four sets, 1-3 (18-25, 25-16, 17-25, 19-25).

Women's soccer will return several key pieces in 2015
MSU is losing six players to graduation this year, but with some key pieces returning next fall, the Spartans should have an opportunity to compete in the Big Ten. Redshirt junior defender Mary Kathryn Fiebernitz has been a major contributor throughout her Spartan career, and she was recently named a second team All-Big Ten selection. She scored four goals this past season and anchored the MSU defense. “It’s definitely an honor to be named to that team,” Fiebernitz said.
