With the trip to Disney World and all of the bowl festivities drawing to a close, the Spartans now face the task of battling adversity one last time this season. MSU announced Monday that five players, including senior defensive end Jonal Saint-Dic, are ineligible for the Champs Sports Bowl against No. 14 Boston College.

Hoyer studies Eagles quarterback, eager for matchup

All season long, junior quarterback Brian Hoyer said he has been flipping through his TV stations trying to find the Boston College games. He watched as Eagles quarterback Matt Ryan drove his team to two fourth-quarter touchdown drives in a come-from-behind 14-10 win against Virginia Tech. He paid close attention to Ryan’s mechanics, admiring the little things like his footwork.

Here comes the sun

At 8:18 p.m. Sunday night, a voice from the PA system interrupted head coach Mark Dantonio during the football team’s bowl selection press conference to make it official. The voice belonged to Tony Martin, the chairman of the Champs Sports Bowl selection committee, and he invited the Spartans (7-5) to play No. 14 Boston College (10-3) on Dec. 28 in Orlando, Fla.

Jones scores freshman accolades

Freshman linebacker Greg Jones, whose 73 tackles led the MSU football team and all Big Ten freshmen in the regular season, was named first-team Freshman All-American by Scout.com and Rivals.com.
