As the No. 7 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, the Spartans look to break a two-year first-round skid when they take on No. 10 seed Illinois Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Indianapolis.

The No. 2 Michigan State hockey team is two points away from earning a share of the Big Ten regular-season title, and three points away from clinching it outright. No. 15 Michigan State dug itself into a 23-point halftime hole it couldn't climb out of Sunday, falling 87-68 to No. 12 Ohio State in the final game of the regular season at Breslin Center. A sluggish first half offensively — MSU shot just 28% from the field — combined with a red-hot Buckeye offense led by 33 points from sophomore guard Jaloni Cambridge proved to be too much to overcome, despite a much-improved second half showing from the Spartans.

No. 1 MSU hockey earns shootout win after Senior Night tie
After dropping the first game of the series, No. 1 Michigan State hockey gritted out a 3-3 tie and a shootout win over Ohio State, backed by game-tying goals from the freshmen, a shootout goal from Colin Ralph and junior goaltender Trey Augustine. The game embodied the response and resilience of the senior class, which was honored after the game.

No. 1 MSU hockey falls 5-1 to Ohio State after early three-goal deficit
After trailing 3-0 in the first period, the No. 1 MSU hockey team was outworked by Ohio State 5-1 in a performance that lacked its usual detail. After losing the series opener, the team moves to 15-6-0 in the Big Ten and 24-7-0 overall.
