Football camp update: Young players hitting wall

The excitement of beginning preseason camp has subsided, and the MSU football team now is looking forward to the beginning of the regular season. Now halfway through camp, head coach Mark Dantonio said this is the time players usually hit the wall and need some extra motivation to get through the rest preseason.

Summer 2010 changed future of MSU sports

The world of college sports usually is a boring one during the summer months. After March Madness — the most exciting two and a half weeks in all of sports — and spring football are complete, there is not much to look forward to between April and August when it comes to major college sports. However, not only was summer 2010 far more intriguing than most summers, it also will end up playing a significant role in the future of MSU athletics.

Plenty to watch for as Spartans get prepared

Preseason camp for the MSU football team can be tough on students and fans who are excited for the season to begin. With the first game not until Sept. 4 at home against Western Michigan, all of the talk about football without any action can get old quickly. But as the Spartans prepare for their first game, here are four storylines that will keep things interesting this preseason.

Football team opens fall camp

Sunday marked the beginning of the 2010 season for the MSU football team, as players reported for physicals and team meetings. Preseason practice begins today, as the Spartans officially begin to prepare for the 115th season of MSU football.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Spartan basketball to head to Maui

For the third time in school history, the MSU men’s basketball team will take on the Chaminade Swords when the two teams play in the opening round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational at 9:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in Maui, Hawaii. It will be the first time the two teams have faced each other since 2005, when the Spartans beat the Swords, 89-67, also at the Maui Invitational.

Expansion talk dominates Big Ten Media Days

Expansion talk dominated Media Days, as coaches, players and conference Commissioner Jim Delany had plenty to say about the recent addition of Nebraska. Hearing from coaches and players was interesting, but it was what Delany had to say about the future of the Big Ten that was the most informative.

Players excited for Big Ten expansion

After Big Ten coaches had a chance express their opinions on the future of the conference with Nebraska as a new member, it was the players’ turn to chime in Tuesday at Big Ten 2010 Football Media Days at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago.
