Women's soccer improves to 5-0 with win over IPFW

MSU (5-0 overall) saw new faces make big plays Friday, and the Spartans got out to a quick start against IPFW and never looked back, defeating the Mastadons 3-1 at DeMartin Soccer Complex.Junior midfielder Sarah Kovan scored off of a free kick from junior defender Alexandra Gjonaj in the sixth minute for the Spartans.

Field hockey will take on Saint Joseph's and American in D.C. for weekend slate

As field hockey heads to the nation’s capital this weekend to take on Saint Joseph’s and American, they will be looking to improve upon their up-and-down, yet promising start.Having scored five goals in all but one of its games this season, including exhibitions, MSU feels comfortable with how its offense is playing to start the season. After generating 28 shots in the game against Maine on Sunday, scoring goals and generating opportunities are not high on the list of priorities for this team.

Players to watch in this weekend's volleyball ACC-Big Ten Challenge

No. 14 MSU (4-0) takes on No. 19 Duke (4-0) and No. 20 North Carolina (2-1) this weekend in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge at Jenison Field House. As part of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, both Duke and UNC will play road games against MSU and Michigan.All three teams made the NCAA Tournament last year and return a combined 38 letterwinners.A lot of talent will be on display, and here are a few players on each team to watch on Friday and Saturday.

Fast-paced Oregon offense will provide challenge for stingy MSU defense

Autzen Stadium will see a true strength vs. strength situation on Saturday when No. 7 MSU puts its hard-nosed defense up against No. 3 Oregon’s explosive offense in one of the season’s best non-conference matchups. “You look at Oregon, certainly you see what they’ve done offensively, and they are different from other spread teams,” head coach Mark Dantonio said during Tuesday’s press conference. “I think they’ve had so much success, a lot of people are taking some of the things and imitating them or not copying, but using their concepts and trying to adapt it into their offenses.
