Spartans fall to Nebraska 60-51

The No. 9 Spartans had a chance to take the outright lead in the Big Ten race, but Nebraska had other ideas. Led by Terran Petteway’s 23 points, the Huskers spoiled senior guard Keith Appling’s return to the court by topping the Spartans at home, 60-51. A win would have given MSU sole possession of first place in the Big Ten after Michigan fell at home to Wisconsin earlier on Sunday. The Spartans and Wolverines remain tied atop the conference with a Feb.

MSU hockey holds off Penn State for first road win of season

It wasn’t pretty, but MSU hockey will take it. The team recorded its first road win of the season Saturday, coming from behind to beat Penn State, 2-1, at Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pa. MSU (9-13-7 overall, 3-5-6-4 Big Ten) was held to a season-low 13 shots in the game, but was able to capitalize on a few fluke bounces, with junior forward Matt Berry scoring the game-winning goal with 5:04 left in the third period.

Hockey ties Penn State in regulation, wins shootout

It was a different day but the same story for MSU on Friday night, as the Spartan hockey team earned two points in a 2-2 tie at Penn State with a shootout victory. Friday was the fourth time in the last five games that MSU went to a shootout to determine the additional point in Big Ten standings.

No. 9 MSU beats Northwestern by 15

Adreian Payne dominated as the No. 9 MSU men’s basketball team (21-4 overall, 10-2 Big Ten) put on a three-point shooting clinic in an 85-70 win against Northwestern (12-13, 5-7 Big Ten) Thursday night.
