Flagg bound over for marijuana charge

After his pre-trial hearing Tuesday, MSU bandit Robert Flagg was bound over for trial on a charge of marijuana use. Flagg pleaded not guilty to the charges at his November arraignment, and a trial date has not been set. In a separate incident, junior defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson's charge for driving with a suspended license was dismissed for time served after his Tuesday pre-trial hearing. Vickerson was credited for one day of jail served from an earlier offense on Sept.

Icers gear up for intrastate rivalry

Rivals MSU and Michigan will each face off on home ice this week with their fans behind them to help heat up the competition. "Whenever we play Michigan, there's always a little more propensity through everyone's mind," said junior forward Jim Slater, who leads the CCHA overall scoring race with 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists). Both teams will have the opportunity to play on home ice this week, where each team usually dominates.

Duke, 'U' collide for first time since '99

On Sunday afternoon, MSU senior center Jason Andreas and his fellow captains, junior guard Chris Hill and junior swingman Alan Anderson, lifted the Coca-Cola Spartan Classic trophy. Minutes after the game, the Duke lineup appeared on the dry-erase board in the Spartans' locker room. "We're going to enjoy this championship for a couple hours," Andreas said after MSU's 89-81 win over DePaul.

3 Spartans given honors

Three MSU volleyball players earned all-Big Ten honors this week.Junior outside hitter Kim Schram was named to first team all-Big Ten, and senior setter Nikki Colson and senior middle Jenny Rood won honorable mention."It's good for the team to have players recognized," Schram said.

After going all season without losing two matches in a weekend, the MSU volleyball team was swept for the first time by Northwestern and Illinois this past weekend.The Spartans (19-11 overall, 11-9 Big Ten) were hoping to win at least one match before heading into the NCAA Tournament, but were unable to accomplish their goal.On Sunday evening, the Spartans found out they will host the first and second round of the NCAATournament.

Lions still have slim chance of making playoffs

The champagne is on ice, chilling for the celebration of the century. And as the weeks go by, it becomes more and more of a possibility because, contrary to popular belief, the Detroit Lions (4-8) still have a shot at the playoffs. If asked about his team's chances, new head coach Steve Mariucci would certainly deny it, but with a little help and a whole lot of love, the hometown professional pigskin tossers will be sitting pretty in the playoffs. Williams a finalist for Eastern coaching job

Reports from The Grand Rapids Press on Tuesday named former MSU head football coach Bobby Williams - along with MSU running backs coach Reggie Mitchell - as two of six finalists for the Eastern Michigan head coaching position. Neither Williams nor Mitchell were available for comment Tuesday, although Eastern Michigan athletics director David Diles maintained that the Eagles would not be confirming reports considering their vacant coaching position. "I will not confirm or deny anything regarding (the position)," Diles said.
