MSU hockey to take on University of Michigan in regional finals of NCAA Championships

For the sixth time this season, the Michigan State Spartans will face off in men's hockey against their in-state rivals, the University of Michigan Wolverines. This time around, the game to come is the deciding factor of who goes on to St. Paul, Minnesota to be one of the final four teams in the NCAA Championships, also known as the Frozen Four.

MSU women's tennis falls to Purdue 4-1, drop to 0-5 in conference play

The Michigan State women's tennis team fell to the Purdue Boilermakers, 4-1, which now extends its losing streak to four games. With the loss, the Spartans are now 9-10 overall and 0-5 in Big Ten play.

MSU hockey's Jeremy Davidson scores game-winning goal in overtime, Spartans advance in Frozen Four

Michigan State men's hockey, playing in the first round of the men's hockey NCAA Championships, commonly known as the Frozen Four, against Western Michigan University, came back from down 4-2 in the third period to tie the game and eventually emerge victorious in overtime with a 5-4 win. This win, which seemed almost impossible after the first half of the game with how much Western Michigan was dominating the Spartans, marked Michigan State's second 5-4 overtime victory in a row and allowed the team to advance to the regional finals of the Frozen Four on Sunday against the University of Michigan.

 The Spartans will play on Sunday at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri, against the winner of the University of North Dakota and University of Michigan game. Puck drop will be at 6:30 p.m. ESPN2 will air the game.

MSU baseball looks to correct recent pitching woes against Rutgers in Big Ten home season opener

Michigan State baseball has had a rough start to the season, including two losses at Maryland and a loss to Oakland at home, a game in which the Spartans allowed 16 hits and went through seven pitchers. However, the Spartans look to spin things around and possibly take a series win against Rutgers in Michigan State's home series opener against a Big Ten team. The Rutgers are 18-7 and have not played at Big Ten team yet, as opposed to Michigan State's 10-13 record overall and a 1-2 record in Big Ten play.

‘Big is a mindset’: How MSU's Julia Ayrault is navigating the center position

At the collegiate level, people usually expect someone who averaged 15.4 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game – eight rebounds per game in Big Ten play – with 65 blocks at the center position to at least have regularly played that position throughout high school. But believe it or not, that stat line comes from MSU women’s basketball player Julia Ayrault, a guard.

MSU hockey prepares for first round Frozen Four match against Western Michigan University

The men's hockey NCAA Championships, more commonly known as the Frozen Four, is approaching for the Michigan State hockey team. The Spartans are in an effort to defeat the highly qualified and veteran team of the Western Michigan Broncos, a former CCHA rival from the pre-Big Ten men's hockey conference era.

Poor pitching performances lead to MSU baseball dropping single game to Oakland, 11-7

Michigan State baseball lost to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 11-7 in the first matchup between the two teams this season, putting the Spartans at a 10-13 overall record so far this season. Despite a great offensive performance by the Spartans, the Grizzlies scored 5 runs in the final three innings, helping push them past Michigan State.

MSU baseball looks to continue offensive surge for home game against Oakland

Michigan State baseball is returning to East Lansing to battle the Oakland Golden Grizzlies after an away series against Maryland and a single game against Michigan in Ann Arbor.

MSU women's basketball's Abbey Kimball named to 2023-2024 Academic All-District Team

Michigan State women’s basketball sophomore guard Abbey Kimball was named to the women's basketball 2023-2024 Academic All-District Team. Kimball was selected by College Sports Communicators, or CSC, and the announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon. She was the only player from Michigan State to be selected.

MSU hockey gets automatic bid into NCAA Championships, will play Western Michigan in first round

For the first time since 2012, the Michigan State men's hockey team is headed back to the NCAA Championships, more commonly known as the Frozen Four, after a season-clinching Big Ten regular season title and a thrilling overtime Big Ten Tournament title.

MSU baseball loses first Big Ten series of the season, drops to 9-12 overall

Michigan State baseball lost two games and won one in a three-game series at Maryland in the team’s first conference series of the season. The series came after Michigan State’s first home-opener of the season in a series win against Evansville.

Creating history: MSU hockey beats Michigan in Big Ten championship game

As the clock ran down and the crowd inside Munn Ice Arena was on its feet, the winning goal slipped past the University of Michigan goaltender, hit the side of the post and went into the net. Freshman defenseman Patrick Geary, the player who scored the final goal, went skating toward freshman goaltender Trey Augustine, his teammates following, as the Spartans conquered their mission of becoming not only Big Ten regular season champions but also the Big Ten Tournament champions, all in one season.

MSU women's gymnastics wins Big Ten Championships for first time in program history

Michigan State women’s gymnastics, ranked No. 8 in the nation, won the Big Ten Championships title after defeating the University of Michigan, Ohio State and the University of Minnesota at Jenison Field House on Saturday, March 23. This is the first conference championship in Michigan State history and the first time the Spartans were crowned both the regular season and Big Ten Championships titles in one season.

Inconsistencies plague MSU men's basketball in second round loss to No. 1 North Carolina

Michigan State men’s basketball started off the season as the No. 4 ranked team in the country, but it ended the season far from it. The 2023-2024 Michigan State Spartans were inconsistent—not only from game to game but from minute to minute. Saturday night was no different.

MSU hockey crowned Big Ten Tournament champions for first time in program history

The time had come for Michigan State men's hockey. A chance to prove itself as the team it had shown the whole season. With the opportunity to host the Big Ten championship game, the Spartans welcomed the University of Michigan Wolverines. After a game that lasted three full periods and an overtime, the Michigan State men's hockey team took home the win and was crowned tournament champions, after a 5-4 win.

Michigan State wrestling closes out 2024 season at NCAA Championships

Five wrestlers represented Michigan State at the wrestling Division One NCAA Championships in Kansas City, Missouri, which spanned three days from Thursday, March 21 to Saturday, March 23. Two Spartans – senior Caleb Fish and graduate student Layne Malczewski – made it past the first day of sessions to advance further into the tournament.

MSU men's basketball's season ended by No. 1 North Carolina, falls 85-69 in second round of March Madness

The No. 9 seed Spartans fell to No. 1 seed North Carolina 85-69 on Saturday, ending MSU’s rollercoaster of a season in blowout fashion. It wasn’t that way until late, though, when UNC put the dagger into the Spartans without its best player – senior guard R.J. Davis – on the floor.

MSU women's basketball comes up short in first round of March Madness, look to rebuild for next season

The Michigan State women’s basketball team had been playing all season with a success that not many people expected. A brand new coach, Robyn Fralick, some new faces and a recent history of not making it to the NCAA Tournament left people wondering how far this season's "trial-run" team will go. After going 22-9 in overall play and 12-6 in conference play, Michigan State's season came to an end after a close finish against the University of North Carolina ended in a 59-56 defeat, sending the Spartans home to East Lansing after the Round of 64 in March Madness.

Michigan State, the No. 9 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament, will battle No. 1 seed University of North Carolina for a spot in the Sweet 16. The matchup between the two college basketball powerhouses is fundamentally a home game for the Tar Heels, who will play just a few hours from home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
