Student section booing "It's On Us" campaign ad is disrespectful

At the Nebraska game this Saturday at Spartan Stadium, an ad came on the big screens for The White House’s It’s On Us campaign, which is a call to arms for everyone ? yes, everyone, “not just men” ? to stop perpetuating the culture that generates sexual assault. The stadium watched quietly as the commercial played.

Editorial: More handicapped seating is necessary in Spartan Stadium

Advertising junior Katie Feirer has a very simple request. She'd like to experience an MSU football game the same way her peers do.Feirer is wheelchair-bound, and as such, has been segregated from fellow student fans, because handicap accomodations in Spartan Stadium have effectively banished her to the other side of the stadium. And it's not just handicapped students who are forced into a different experience ? other disabled fans have been shuttled to the press box when there aren't enough handicap-accessible seats.

You bought football season tickets, now use them

For the last two home games, the Spartan football team has come out of the tunnel to an empty top deck and a Rose Bowl banner. A Rose Bowl banner that, if it adorned the stadiums of other schools, would be enough to get every seat in the stadium filled.

Concerts need to come through for students

For as long as can be remembered, concerts have been to college kids what Florida is to tourists. The best-known names in the entertainment industry — be it rappers, singers, bands or comedians — always seem to possess a magnetic force, hauling in crazed fans, truckloads of revenue, and, most importantly, great nights all around.

Part-time job applications develop longtime career skills

Job applications are one of those necessary steps in a career that promises more frustration than opportunity. A single application can take quite some time to fill out. And sometimes, the best you can hope for after submitting an application is briefly meeting with the manager and shaking hands.

MSU is too digital, too impersonal

I spent more than a week submitting my application to MSU. My best friends, sister and parents extensively combed through it with me. Not because it was extremely tedious, although it was, but because it was online.

LETTER: Why you probably didn’t hear about the largest climate rally in history

This past Sunday bore witness to a noble cause that received very little U.S. media coverage: The People’s Climate March. All across the globe, citizens marched arm-in-arm with banners and chants referencing a cleaner tomorrow in hopes of reaching our world’s most influential policymakers, calling for less talk and more action. As the world continues to change at an alarming rate, the global march preceded the U.N. Climate Summit, scheduled for September 23. The only problem is, not enough of us heard.

Academic success is a point of pride for MSU student athletes

College students determine success in different ways. For some, it’s evolving from apprehensiveness to feeling comfortable in new social settings. For others, it’s eclipsing athletic aspirations. For most at MSU, success ultimately means balancing personal goals with the constant demand of academics.

Connect with people, not screens

The effect technology has on MSU students and how they interact with one another concerns me. I first noticed the impact during my freshman year, when nearly everyone in my hallway shut their doors and turned on their TVs.
