A Hewlett-Packard laptop computer, several video gaming systems, an MP3 player, DVDs, video games and other items totaling more than $3,600 were stolen from a West Akers Hall dorm room sometime between 3 and 4:50 a.m. Sunday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

Spring Arbor looks to hire MSU administrator

The man behind one of MSU’s most successful fundraising campaigns will likely leave the university after this weekend. Spring Arbor University’s Board of Trustees will vote Saturday on whether to appoint Charles Webb, MSU vice president for university development, as their 15th president.

E-mail scam reported by E.L. residents

East Lansing police are investigating two related reports of a threatening e-mail scam. Two East Lansing residents reported receiving e-mails with the subject line “Be More Careful,” in which the sender threatened to kill them if they didn’t wire him or her $15,000.

Like most of his friends, James Lim didn’t understand MSU’s judicial system before he decided to apply for the Student Defenders program. Lim, a political science and economics junior, is one of five members who make up Student Defenders, an ASMSU-affiliated program that helps resolve intra-university disputes by giving counsel to student clients.

E.L. seeks $5.3M development bond

The East Lansing City Council moved forward in its attempt to receive a $5.3 million bond and delayed action of a resolution banning the use of eminent domain during its meeting Tuesday night. The bond is planned to foster the development of new businesses in the downtown and could be used for improvements on the Virginia Avenue project and in other parts of the city.
