Michigan State University has many buildings that are jointly run with Sparrow, including the Sparrow MSU Family Medicine and Sparrow Laboratory and MSU Clinical Center. Dover said he “would find it doubtful” any buildings on campus would be renamed to include the University of Michigan brand name.
On April 3, 2023, the MSU Union officially opened its doors to welcome students and community members back into its building. Countless student workers began preparing for their shift to see familiar faces and student customers, while students prepare to enter the building again after almost two months.
The MSU Union welcomed the community of students and staff back into the building at 8 a.m. on April 3. Counselors from Counseling and Psychiatric Services, faculty, priests and student employees delivered speeches during the reopening ceremony.

When Maria Valayil was hired by the Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety as their police social worker in the fall of 2022, she said she had a good picture of what the job would ask of her on a day-to-day basis.Having graduated two times from MSU and working as a victim advocate in the prosecutor’s office, Valayil said she knew what her role would look like and where she would fit in the community. Despite this, however, Valayil said that no one could have expected a mass shooting would take place on the campus on a fateful February night and the impact it would have.
