East Lansing residents will celebrate Thanksgiving a few days early with a celebration sponsored by members of the Community Relations Coalition. Neighborhood Resource Coordinators will host the Bailey Community Thanksgiving Celebration at 7 p.m.

A new radio show on campus aims to air the minority voice to the MSU community.The minority program, which is part of Impact's Exposure, was on the air for the second time at 7 p.m.

Service fraternity to host race on Saturday

The nation's largest community service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, will host a 5K run/walk called "Chase For Charity" on Saturday in front of the MSU Psychology Research Building. The MSU chapter of the fraternity developed the race in an effort to promote community fellowship and raise money for the various organizations they represent.

Kids go to work with Lansing staffers

Lansing - About 40 students from Wexford Elementary School in Lansing discovered what it is like to walk a mile in the mayor's shoes Thursday as part of MSU's Young Spartan Program.Fifth-grade students from Amy Nichols' and Jackie Surdenik's classes experienced hands-on the jobs of Lansing employees ranging from police officers, firefighters, management staff and city assessors to city council members and the mayor."I think it is very fun and exciting because you get to see what goes on here," Wexford Elementary student Marisha Smith said of the Lansing City Assessor's Office.

Noise down, police reduce education efforts

With parties decreasing in the city, East Lansing police officials say they temporarily discontinued door-to-door efforts to educate students about noise violations and ordinances.Parties have decreased from an average of 90 party complaints reported each home football weekend to 10 party complaints last weekend, dropping 15 complaints from the previous weekend, East Lansing police Capt.

Greeks award gala to honor community leaders

The second annual Greek Awards Gala will honor members of the MSU greek community today. Both the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils are coordinating the gala. The event starts with a banquet dinner at 7 p.m.

Report: State needs education cost strategy

Attending MSU is something Texas natives Julia Cardenas and Rosie Lozano thought they'd never be doing a year ago.The two thought a Big Ten education was something they'd never be able to afford so a journey to East Lansing stayed out of their minds.But when a representative of the MSU-College Assistance Migrant Program visited Texas, their future suddenly changed."For some of us it was one of the luckiest things that could happen," said Cardenas, who along with Lozano, is receiving a full scholarship for her first year thanks to the program.Now their futures seem brighter."I feel like I have more opportunities here than I have at home," Lozano said.

The Residence Halls Association will recognize a few halls for quality programming for this semester.The organization is accepting bids for the Hall/Organization of the Semester Award for different halls and organizations on campus.

Lansing welcomes 4 businesses to revamped Old Town

Lansing - Jan Allen lived in Old Town when it wasn't so old. The Lansing resident would wait in a car on Turner Street while her grandmother grabbed a quick drink from one of the city's bars.More than 60 years later Allen has opened a coffee shop in the neighborhood across from the location of the bar her grandmother was so fond of."Old Town has always been a part of me," she said.

ASMSU works on student-TA relationships

Two ASMSU representatives are hoping to identify problems that exist between teaching assistants and undergraduate students.Tom Morse, the College of Communication Arts and Sciences representative, and Dan Weber, the College of Natural Science representative, both members of ASMSU's Academic Assembly, have been meeting with faculty and graduate students since the beginning of November to discuss the initiative."We're just trying to find out what undergraduates think about their TAs," Weber said.

Group recognized for contest participation

Members of the Residence Halls Association participated in a conference at the University of Wisconsin Osh Kosh to develop program ideas and build leadership skills last weekend. MSU's RHA came back from the Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls conference, Nov.
