Last year’s flu season conjures up images of long lines, repeat visits to the doctor and vaccine shortages, but with a new vaccine, local health officials are expecting a much smoother process this year.
The 2010-11 vaccine, distributed by the federal government, will attack three strains of influenza including the H3N2 virus, the influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus, said James McCurtis Jr., a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Community Health, or MDCH.
“It’s hard to say, but we hope numbers (of flu instances) will be down this year,” McCurtis said.
