Board to vote on scaling back Spartan Gateway District
Michigan State University's Board of Trustees could vote Friday to rein in its ambitious plan to build a hotel, restaurants and retail spaces on campus. MSU says that the proposal is partially due to its athletics department no longer wanting the new 6,000-seat arena included in the plan.

MSU Cash Drops is a news Instagram account that has been leaving money around campus for any student to claim if they get there first. The account began in September 2025 and has gained over 5,000 followers. Students give comments on their attempts to claim the money in time.

In the last city council election, 45 students voted for a candidate. The panel served as an attempt to bridge the gap between the city of East Lansing and MSU students — a goal all six candidates supported.

City Council approves amendments to police oversight ordinance despite pushback
East Lansing City Council approved the proposed amendments to the police oversight ordinance at a regularly scheduled council meeting on Tuesday evening. The amendments restrict the investigative powers of the oversight commission as the police department faces accusations of excessive force and racism.

Nearly 100 laid off through budget cuts, president says
Nearly one-hundred faculty, staff and managerial positions have been terminated as part of Michigan State's ongoing efforts to reduce its operating budget by 9% over two years. Another 83 positions have been slashed as a result of federal funding cuts, the university president wrote.
