Student showcases love of jazz with original songs

Jazz studies senior Olin Clark has been playing and writing music since he first received a guitar for his 13th birthday. Though he admittedly had no idea what he was doing at the time, Clark has since gone from writing beginner’s music for guitar to writing full nonet jazz pieces.

"Fifty Shades" sparks conversation regarding domestic violence, abusive relationships

“We found abuse was prevalent throughout the book,”Bonomi said. “Christian uses an ‘interlocking pattern of abuse,’ such as stalking and intimidation." Psychology junior Jillian Convery, who said she has read the books and saw the movie, said she could see how someone who did not read the books before seeing the movie might find the film “abusive and horrifying.”

Mimi Patterson said she was happy to have the opportunity to spend time with her daughter.  “Now that she's off at college I don't get to see her very often and so for her to invite me to do something with her was awesome, so I jumped at it,” Mimi Patterson said.

Spreading Kindness

Kindness and courage. These two words personified Charlie Waller. Although Charlie, the son of MSU history professor John Waller, passed away Dec. 5, 2013, from cancer at the age of five, no one could have predicted the impact Charlie would have on the East Lansing and MSU communities.

Recent shooting draws attention to lack of parking lot security

In the most recent parking garage incident, two men were shot, resulting in one fatality. As of Tuesday, police have not announced the capture of any suspects, whom they described as two black males, the first being 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing between 165 and 180 pounds and last seen wearing “a hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.” The second was described as a 5-foot-11-inch black male, weighing about 200 pounds.

Activists prepare for Valentine's Day domestic violence march

Participants will meet at the rock on Farm Lane at noon Saturday to participate in the protest, and are encouraged to wear pink or red. Protesters are expected to leave the rock using Farm Lane, and turn left on Grand River Avenue. The march is expected to end at the Brody neighborhood complex in front of The Kellogg Center, premed sophomore and co-president of SFC Cayley Winters said.
