Former MSU Police Deputy Chief Valerie O'Brien, who was placed on administrative leave with her husband and former MSU PD detective JJ Bradac in 2019, has returned after more than a year. Her husband, Bradac, is no longer employed by MSU or the department.
“Students just need to know this is what’s happening right now,” Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail said. “You are setting the stage for not returning to face-to-face learning, not having an enjoyable basketball season, all of these things that you can count on in your college experience are not going to happen.”
Futures for Frontliners, the first program of its kind in the nation, provides those who have worked the front lines throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the ability to earn free college credit at any of the state’s 28 public community colleges.

Seventeen fraternities voted in favor of the moratorium. The vote, which took place in August, needed 19 votes to pass. The fellowship, which pays $1,050 per month for 15 hours a week, allows college students the opportunity to educate their peers on the importance of participating in elections.

Director of Communications and Marketing for the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Eileen Gianiodis said this decision comes as a result of business and economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. With MSU moving to remote learning for the fall, Gianiodis said they realized sales would only continue to decline.
"In actuality, MSU doesn’t have any sort of obligation to help us," Chase Maples said. "We are the ones who signed contracts, right, we are the ones who signed the leases. But on the other hand, we also had signed that not expecting there was going to be a global pandemic, expecting that we were going to be going to go to school full-time with in person teaching."
Three found dead — including two children — in a house fire near Thursday midnight. The Lansing Fire Marshal Division and Lansing police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The city of East Lansing interviewed the four finalists for the city attorney's position on Thursday, Sept. 3 and voted 4-1 to select Foster Swift Law Firm as the next representing firm for the city attorney.
The motion will be voted on at next week's Board of Trustees meeting.
