2026 winter style guide: the trends that took over cold weather fashion

As the fall slowly transitions into the bitter cold, the weather is not the only thing that is shifting. This change marks the beginning of a new fashion cycle, causing the rise and fall of certain styles, patterns, colors, accessories, etc. This particular year, winter fashion had a heavy emphasis on warmth and comfort, but also individuality.

MSU board to vote on IM West demolition after yearlong delay

Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees will vote Friday on whether to proceed with the IM West demolition, after a year of delay. Other items to be voted on include renovations for Wilson Hall, the appointment of a new Vice President for Research and Innovation and the appointment of auditors for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

In the wake of recent antisemitic and Islamophobic incidents around East Lansing, Michigan State University hosted its biannual conference broaching the topics. MSU’s Office of Inclusive Excellence and Impact, alongside multiple professors, held their event “Conversations on Antisemitism and Islamophobia" Friday morning. Event organizers invited MSU students, faculty and staff members to attend.

"Heated Rivalry" sparks discussion surrounding LGBTQIA+ representation

Released in November 2025, the book-to-screen adaptation Heated Rivalry has taken the world by storm, capturing widespread attention on platforms like social media. Heated Rivalry, originally a romance novel written by Rachel Reid as the second book in her “Game Changers” series, follows two rival professional hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, and their secret, enemies-to-lovers long-term relationship. The show explores queer relationships in a typically hyper-masculine setting, where heteronormativity is what is generally accepted.

Lansing hosts first Olive Burger Week

From Jan. 23 - 31, Lansing’s first Olive Burger Week will take place in various participating local restaurants. Dubbed as the Olive Burger Capital, Lansing restaurants will celebrate by providing customers with their own unique takes on the classic olive burger. Co-hosted by Lansing Foodies and Lansing 5:01, Olive Burger Week will feature a variety of local restaurants.

Knowing angry drivers will post pictures of them online, parking enforcers go to lengths to conceal their faces while out on the job. Online harassment and verbal abuse is routine, some say, and more than once, parking lot spats required police intervention.
