Despite doing almost no campaigning after receiving party nominations, the Democratic candidates swept November's trustee election. The campaign finance filings of the candidates and current trustees reveal their win is no anomaly.
While members of the Board of Trustees don't receive a salary compensation for their work, they do have access to several university benefits. From University Club membership to complimentary athletic tickets, here is a look into the perks of being a trustee.
“I do really respect Dr. Woodruff and I'm hopeful because I do know her character a little more personally," President of Women in STEM Riley Spalding said. "So I'm hopeful and excited to see how these next semesters or months are going to go.”

MSU Health Care has seen a trend of better blood pressure control after Higi Care Everyday has been implemented over the past few months. When patients have information about their measurements, they feel empowered to take better control of their health, Jansen said.
Hosting six types of squirrel species, MSU is considered to have one of the higher and more diverse squirrel populations in the nation.
“If you take insights from psychological science, and you apply them to problems that need solutions, and you do that directly in an informed way, it's a really timely opportunity to do something that matters," Lucas said. "I saw an opportunity to do science that would make a difference.”
Members of the community will have access to vaccinations against influenza and the bivalent COVID-19 vaccinations and their boosters.
“When I was provost I would say I have 50,000 students, 5,700 faculty and academic staff and then I’ve got about 20,000 souls,” Woodruff said. “I count every cow, every sheep, every goat, every insect in entomology, I count every soul as part of us.”

“It’s hard to find different programs here at MSU to support you,” Downs said. “And that’s the worst part about it. The SIRS forms will be revamped to "address what quality teaching looks like on campus." ASMSU representatives also suggested a new model for the presidential search committee, limiting trustee and donor spots to allow more room for MSU community members.
The two Democratic trustee candidates, Renee Knake Jefferson and Dennis Denno, won both open seats on the board. Their Republican challengers, Travis Menge and Mike Balow, said they fully accept the results.
Renee Knake Jefferson and Dennis Denno have won the two open seats on the MSU Board of Trustees with 24.94% and 24.35% of the votes, respectively, according to Ingham County's unofficial results. Their terms will start in January 2023.
Michigan State students waited in line on campus for over three hours after polls closed to cast their ballots in the Nov. 8 general election.
Hundreds of students have registered to vote on campus at Brody Hall. Poll workers say on-campus locations are running smoothly.
Students made their way into Brody Hall on Tuesday morning to begin casting their ballots in one of the most critical midterm elections in decades.
“This week is an opportunity to double down on our commitment and put action into place that will mobilize our community around stalking and gender-based violence awareness,” POR peer educator coordinator Alex Babbitt said in a press release. “‘It’s On Us’ is a reminder that change starts with each one of us.”
