Neitzel signs contract with German team

Former MSU guard Drew Neitzel has signed a one-year contract to play with the Artland Dragons of the German Professional Basketball League, according to Eurobasket.com Neitzel played for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA’s Summer League earlier this month, but decided to sign with Artland on Wednesday.

Bill could broaden state's definition of hate crimes

A bill introduced last week in the Michigan House of Representatives seeks to expand the state’s definition of hate crimes to include intimidation of gays, lesbians and those with disabilities, as well as the use of symbols for the purpose of harassment.

West Nile testing continues

As reports of the West Nile virus arrive from across the United States this week, experts said the virus’s impact in Michigan still remains to be seen. News reports said mosquitoes carrying the virus have been found in Nevada, California and Washington. But as of Tuesday, there have been no reported cases of West Nile in humans or mosquitoes in Michigan this year.

Farms promote local produce

Community supported agriculture, or CSA, can provide an alternative to grocery store shopping for fresh produce. CSA is a partnership between the farmer and the people who buy shares in the farm prior to the growing season, agreeing to share the farmer’s risk, said Elaine Brown, executive director of Michigan Integrated Food & Farming Systems, or MIFFS, a nonprofit, affiliate organization of MSU.
