Waste reduction coordinator Dave Smith said in previous years that a goal of recycling 1 million tons of recyclable material was set, but the goal for this year is different. “Our goal is to engage students and not worry so much about the numbers,” Smith said.

Relay for Life kicks off, sets sights on $300K goal

Berlin spoke about his family’s support throughout his treatment, saying he couldn’t have gone through the difficulties without their help. His mother, Patti Berlin, also spoke about her experience with her son’s diagnosis. “I would kiss and hug him more often,” she said. “It broke my heart. No matter the age, my child is my baby.”

ASMSU approves $15,000 to keep iClicker rentals free

Apart from passing the iClicker expansion bill, the ASMSU general assembly passed every bill on their agenda last night, including a bill to support MSU Safe Place by donating $5,000 to become a platinum sponsor of the 21st annual Race for the Place 5k.

Spartans Fighting Cancer release balloons for Relay For Life

By Rachel Fradette rfradette@statenews.com Spartan's Fighting Cancer continued to Paint the Campus Purple on Thursday when they released purple and white balloons into the sky for their annual event.  They held their balloon release at the rock on Farm Lane due to weather conditions on Monday the event was pushed to Thursday.  The organization is especially active on campus this week in order to spread awareness about cancer and its research, for the Relay for Life.

MSU transitioning to a smoke-free campus

MSU has announced that it has plans to make campus tobacco-free, according to the website MSU Today. MSU is going to create a task force, led by the Office of the University Physician, which will create a policy making MSU a tobacco-free environment, according to the website.
