MSU sanctions five fraternities; reasons unclear

Two of the affected fraternities — Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Alpha Epsilon — were featured in a State News story published the day before the sanctions went into effect detailing police reports of hazing and sexual abuse at those fraternities and others.

Sphinx Virtuosi to arrive at MSU's Wharton Center

On Saturday, Feb. 22, Sphinx Virtuosi will be arriving at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts. Sphinx Virtuosi, an extension of Detroit’s globally renowned Sphinx Organization, is a self-conducted chamber orchestra that is dedicated to uplifting Black and Latino voices in classical music. They will be delivering a performance called American Form/s: a musical tapestry spotlighting the many sounds of American classical music and composers of color, through infusions of soul, bluegrass, jazz, blues and elements of rag.

MSU's UAB, RHA host 'Blockbusters and Bracelets' event

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, attendees arrived at Michigan State University’s Brody Hall to participate in the “Blockbusters & Bracelets” event. Hosted in collaboration with MSU’s UAB and RHA Campus Center Cinemas CCC, “Blockbusters & Bracelets” aimed to create a welcoming, Valentine’s Day-themed environment to gather and celebrate.

‘Americans and the Holocaust’ exhibit highlights underrepresented perspectives

The Library of Michigan in Lansing is hosting an exhibit "Americans and the Holocaust" aimed at supplementing broad-based Holocaust education and presenting new perspectives about how the U.S. handled the situation. The exhibit is from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and curated by Daniel Greene with the collaboration of the American Library Association. It will be on display until Feb. 22 during business hours.

Violent media influences viewers' worldview, sensitivity

Young generations in America are growing up in a world where school shootings are recurrent. On Feb. 13, 2023, a mass shooting occurred on Michigan State University's campus, taking the lives of three students. Since then, many have reacted differently to stories of shootings and other acts of terror presented in the media.
