The warm weather, flip-flops and sun of an East Lansing summer have remaining MSU students shaking off the previous months’ cold and taking to the outdoors, whether they’re enrolled in classes, working or laying out in their front yards.

Stollak directs heartfelt farewell concert

On Thursday, Mary Alice Stollak, founding artistic and musical director of the MSU Children’s Choir, directed her choir of 54 children for the last time. The choir members, ranging from 4th grade to high school-aged, wore brightly colored vests, white shirts and blouses and sang to an audience that almost filled the entire first level of Wharton Center.

Campus Bands holds concert Wednesday

The MSU Campus Bands, a program of the College of Music, will hold a concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Auditorium. Tickets are $9 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and free for students and those under 18. The Campus Bands will be split into two different bands that will perform different pieces during the concert. Music education senior Sarah Aungst, a band member, said while the band is affiliated with the College of Music, members aren’t all music students. “All kinds of students are in it and want to do it,” she said.

Trio brings chamber music to Wharton

World-renowned chamber musicians The Verdehr Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wharton Center. The Verdehr Trio is composed of MSU School of Music faculty members Walter Verdehr and Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr on violin and clarinet, respectively, and Western Michigan University professor Silvia Roederer on piano.
