HALFTIME: MSU basketball leads Northwood, 48-35

Following the first half of MSU men's basketball first action of the season, MSU lead the Northwood Timberwolves 48-35 in an exhibition performance. The Spartans showed signs of inexperience littered across the first period, not capturing the lead until the game was eight minutes through.

MSU cuts ribbon for Bio Engineering Facility

The ribbon was cut for the grand opening of the MSU Bio Engineering Facility on Thursday, a project that has been in the works since 2013. The 130,000-square-foot facility will be used as a lab and research building for scientists across many MSU colleges, namely the Colleges of Engineering, Human Medicine, and Natural Science, to collaborate.

Riverboat held its final college night for the year

Wednesday, Oct. 26 was the last Riverboat Halloween college night, with tickets sold out four days before the event Michigan Princess Captain Christopher Chamberlain said. Chamberlain was approximately two years old when his family built the Michigan Princess, which he said is more commonly known as just ‘Riverboat’ on MSU’s campus.

Two schools, two perspectives on mascots

Although there is no physical University of Michigan mascot currently, there is a history of students and coaches trying to bring one to U-M’s sidelines. Students have referred to themselves as Wolverines from as early as the 1860's, according to the U-M campus information website, but no one is 100 percent sure why students took up this animal representative.

Police and emergency services prep for busy U-M game weekend

East Lansing and MSU are working together to promote public safety for this weekend’s rivalry home game against Michigan and Halloween festivities, through the Celebrations Committee. Annette Irwin, housing and university relations administrator for the city and co-chair of the committee, said the city and university are preparing for a busy weekend. “It’s the Michigan game and the last time Michigan played here it was a very, very busy night,” Irwin said.
