Spartans return to ice for Green and White game

Defense is supposed to be MSU’s strength this season and Friday’s Green and White intrasquad scrimmage didn’t do anything to shoot down that theory. Hearon tipped a shot from sophomore defenseman Joe Markusen over junior goaltender Ryan Miller’s shoulder for the game-winner.

COMMENTARY

Meets quality

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. At least that appears to be the opinion of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility. The activist group issued a statement last week accusing the Ingham County Health Department of censoring important information from its December 2000 water quality report. The group said hazards to Ingham County’s surface and groundwater were not identified, putting residents in danger. But the county’s 20-page pamphlet, a pared-down version of the 130-page report, is a thorough and easy-to-digest packet containing the highlights of the original publication’s content.

Two exhibition games open hockey season

The MSU coaching staff’s agenda for this weekend is fairly simple - provide the freshmen with their first competitive collegiate atmosphere, get the returning players back up to game speed and at all costs, avoid injuries. But it’s easier said than done. Just five days after their first practice, the Spartans are being thrust into back-to-back exhibition games, starting with the annual Green and White intrasquad game at 7:05 p.m.
