East bracket breakdown

A very critical factor in a team’s success during the NCAA Tournament can be who you play. And with a shocking upset just around the corner, anything is possible. Let’s take a look at the other teams in the bottom half of the East regional bracket. First round opponent: No.

COMMENTARY

Review showed bias against goth kids

There are few things in this world funnier than people who try to tear apart something they don’t understand (“‘Damned’ is goth at its worst,” SN 2/25). I do not feel it is appropriate to generalize a group of people as clowns or imply that all “goth kids” are the same.

BASKETBALL

Intensity in question for tournament

Despite an early exit in the Big Ten Tournament, the MSU men’s basketball team heads into the NCAA Tournament with its finger on its biggest problem - intensity. The question will be, “Can the Spartans pick up the intensity after losing to Indiana in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament?”That same question was MSU head coach Tom Izzo’s biggest concern heading into the Big Ten Tournament.

COMMENTARY

Candidate portrayed incorrectly in article

I was happy to see The State News is covering Ray Ziarno, the Green Party candidate for secretary of state (“Secretary of State race up for grabs,” SN 2/27). It’s good to see The State News covering more than the two major parties.

COMMENTARY

Hate doesnt belong on newspaper page

I’m pleased to see that the current State News editorial board feels the opinion page shouldn’t be used to foment hatred and intolerance (“Moral choice,” SN 3/1). I wish previous editorial boards had realized that publishing opinion columns and letters expressing negative beliefs about homosexual people is exactly the same kind of incitement to hatred and intolerance.

Follow-up in Pattersons series doesnt warrant a 2nd Chance

James Patterson has certainly established himself as one of the best modern suspense novelists, with works including the highly successful “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider.” He has a knack for binding moratorium with frightening reality. But sometimes a so-called “long-awaited” new book is nothing more than a pile of marketing hype.

CCHA Tournament: MSU bests Bowling Green in overtime win

Fifth-ranked MSU was pushed to its limit by Bowling Green on Friday night, but the Spartans stormed back for a gritty 4-3 overtime victory in front of 5,408 fans at Munn Ice Arena.
