The Spartan men’s basketball team begins a crucial five-day span tonight, when it hosts Minnesota. MSU (15-10 overall, 6-6 Big Ten) plays three games against the Big Ten’s best - beginning with surprising fifth-place Minnesota (14-9, 7-5) at 7 p.m. Spartan head coach Tom Izzo said the upcoming week will play a major role in determining MSU’s NCAA Tournament fate. “It’s no question that this week will pretty much determine our NCAA Tournament future,” Izzo said.

Members of Delta Gamma are raising money for the blind this week through a series of events called Anchor Splash.One anchorman is chosen to represent each of the 15 fraternities participating and at the end of the week one anchorman and one fraternity win.Kinesiology junior Dave Smith is the anchorman for Pi Kappa Alpha.

Policing program takes cuts

The East Lansing Police Department could lose grant money, putting programs such as community policing in jeopardy.The department has received roughly $925,000 in grants since 1995, providing the city’s blue with an additional 10 road patrol officers.But proposed budget cuts by the federal government would eliminate 90 percent of the funding for the program Community Oriented Policing Services, or COPS, East Lansing Mayor Mark Meadows said.
