Police focus on E.L. parties

East Lansing police officers could be a guest at large parties this fall. Wearing plain clothes, officers will attempt to locate parties where alcohol is being illegally sold or provided to minors. Police also hope to curtail incidents of fighting, date rape and larcenies, officers are visiting large parties to make sure they are under control, police officials said.

MIDDAY UPDATE: Spartans win heated match to gain tournament victory

If ESPN SportsCenter featured college volleyball, there would undoubtedly be highlights from MSU-South Carolina matchup Saturday night. The championship match of the Coca-Cola/MSU Volleyball Classic proved to be just that - a classic. “That was one of the greatest matches I‘ve ever seen,” MSU head coach Chuck Erbe said of the two hour and twenty minute contest.

MIDDAY UPDATE: Spartans crush Eastern in season-opener

MSU started slow against Eastern Michigan, but by the end the score read 56-7 and the Spartans looked good. The 56 points were more than MSU scored in a single game all last season and the most in a season-opener since 1932, when the Spartans defeated Alma College, 93-0. In the blowout, MSU out-gained the Eagles a total of 625 yards to 241.

RHA movies begin at Wells

Residence Hall Association movies are back up to speed, with “Rush Hour 2” and “Shallow Hal” kicking off the holiday weekend. Movies are free to students living in residence halls and $2 for the general public.
