Organizations leave RHA funds drained

The Residence Halls Association has reached into its pockets to help finance various student group events, but the organization’s generosity might lead to a shortage of funds.Although student groups appreciate RHA’s willingness to help, some members of RHA’s General Assembly aren’t happy the organization has almost spent its entire General Assembly fund so early into the semester.“The general assembly have put themselves in this position,” said Case Hall Rep.

Greeks take over rock for tailgating

On football Saturdays when the sun comes out, so do the tailgaters.One of the largest tailgating spectacles on MSU’s campus is that of the greek organizations who take over the rock on Farm Lane.Waking up early on the weekend isn’t an issue, as fraternities and sororities begin taking over the area next to the Red Cedar River.“I’m out here at 8 o’clock every week,” said Nick Nykerk, a Sigma Pi member and civil engineering sophomore.

Sniper shootings affect U official, student

The nation has watched as authorities launched a massive manhunt for the Washington, D.C.-area sniper.Police arrested two men Thursday who could be the men who left the nation in fear and thinking twice before performing daily tasks.Howard Gobstein, MSU associate vice president for governmental affairs and director of federal relations in Washington, said his reaction has been mixed between disgust, concern and caution.“I was with a friend last week in the suburbs, and I have to admit the thought did cross my mind,” he said.Matt Parente, a criminal justice senior who plans to graduate in December, said he thinks the sniper is crazy for attempting to defeat an entire police investigation.“I think they are handing it the best they can with little evidence and little leads,” Perente said.For more on this article, please see Friday’s edition of The State News.

Youth on display at Munn as Spartans face off with Lakers

For one of the only times this season, MSU will be more experienced than its opponent this week.The youthful Lake Superior State Lakers are in town for a CCHA series at Munn Ice Arena on Thursday and Friday, and they almost make the green Spartans look like fossils.Laker head coach Frank Anzalone has a whopping 15 freshmen on his team, while MSU only has eight rookies.
