Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4 excels

Not only does Tony Hawk rule the skate world, but he’s revolutionized the video game explosion by creating the definitive genre of extreme sports that is endlessly imitated but never equaled. U should support equality for students

Lansing Community College made Michigan history last week by becoming the first community college in the state to provide domestic-partner benefits for the same-sex partners of its employees, according to the Human Rights Campaign. The policy was approved with only two of seven trustees putting in dissenting votes.

Social groups about unity, acceptance

I almost didn’t respond to Nathan Top’s letter to the editor and Carrie Hoover’s column regarding black groups on campus (“Columnist brave to make honest points” SN 10/28 and “Separation doesn’t promote unity” SN 10/25). I was having a peaceful day and did not want to have the burden of thinking my white brothers and sisters are unhappy with support systems for people of color. I do not understand how some whites pretend as if there is no racism and that our experiences do not shape who we are.

When Melrose Apartments resident Sascha Konrad wants to visit friends across the street, he drives rather than taking the risks of walking.“We used to walk to visit friends in other apartments with no street lights and cars passing us at 70 mph,” said the computer science graduate student.

School spirit shields Sparty statue

The rivalry between the Spartans and Wolverines isn’t just about football. The week before the annual meeting gives the two schools the chance to top each other in the art of pulling pranks. “Sparty Watch” has been set up to thwart any plans University of Michigan fans might have to defile the world’s largest free-standing ceramic statue. “There’s going to be people out here all week,” Spartan Marching Band President Adam Gumbrecht said.

Time has run out for Paul DeWeese and his tenure in the Legislature. Voters should elect Virg Bernero to the state’s 23rd District Senate seat when they take a minute to go to the polls Nov.

E.L. to host oral history workshops

The Michigan Department of History, Arts and Libraries will offer workshops designed to teach people about the art of oral history. The MSU Museum, Friends of Michigan History and the Michigan Oral History Association will work with the department to sponsor the workshops from 9 a.m.

Group stretches for Yoga Day

The mats were lined up across the small studio as a group of about 20 people quietly stretched in preparation for Yoga Day USA. Yoga instructor Cherie Ferro gazed over the diverse group as they eagerly awaited her instruction.

Celia Guro is ready to talk about stress. Guro, director of counseling for the College of Osteopathic Medicine, was a participant in the Healthy U program called “Managing Stress and Balancing Your Life,” which ran on Tuesdays from Oct.

Womanhood promoted during event

A group of 30 women dressed in purple T-shirts squeezed in between desks and chairs in an Eppley Center lecture hall for their first belly dancing lesson. The lesson was one of the workshops offered at Every Woman’s Weekend, an event revived after two decades by the Women’s Council Saturday. No-preference sophomore and Women’s Council member Ana Williams said belly dancing is harder than it looks.

Blair, McCue mothers to speak against binge drinking at U

Konnie Licavoli and Cindy McCue want students to know they should think before they drink. Licavoli is the mother of Eric Blair, an 18-year-old Delta College student who drowned in the Red Cedar River in 2001 after drinking at a party, and McCue is the mother of Bradley McCue, an MSU student who died after consuming 24 shots on his 21st birthday in 1998. The two mothers will speak on responsible alcohol use and the need for students to take care of each other at the Auditorium’s Fairchild Theatre at 7:30 p.m.

Former Vice President mocked by protesters

Members of the MSU Democrats closed the doors to the Fairchild Theatre on Monday afternoon in an attempt to muffle the sounds of protesters telling former Vice President Al Gore to “go home.”One protester mocked the former vice president by wearing a mask with his face on it.
