Soccer goalkeeper seeks milestone

The No. 19 women's soccer team heads to Eastern Michigan for a 4 p.m. game in Ypsilanti. Both teams have a 1-1 record. MSU shut out Eastern last season, 3-0. "We want to build on the success (from last season) and get another bid in the NCAA and try to get further into it," head coach Tom Saxton said.

Veggies, fruits needed for men

Smith focuses on tradition, fans

As Jeff Smoker gallantly climbed to the top of the conductor's stand and led the band in a jovial rendition of the "Michigan State Fight Song," he realized he was back. The turmoil of last season's blowup was behind him, and a new vision of MSU football had begun. "My time is almost up," the senior quarterback said.

Fair brings LBGT resources

Live music, poetry, food and speakers helped bring communities together at the Lesbian, Bi, Gay, Transgender and Ally Resource Fair and Solidarity Slam on Wednesday. The Alliance of Lesbian-Bi-Gay-Transgender and Straight Ally Students, along with about a dozen other campus organizations, developed the information-packed fair, now in its tenth year. Resources, which included information on getting involved, help centers and groups across the state, were available at the fair, which was in the Union Parlor rooms.

Holland native thrives on being in Spartan family

For any freshman struggling with life out of the nest, put yourself in Jennifer Beeuwkes' shoes - she's 4,000 miles from home. A Netherlands native, the 18-year-old came to MSU this fall to play field hockey for the Spartans after seeing MSU play in Holland earlier this summer.

Universities seek methods to curb illegal file sharing

For Tom Pilbeam, downloading music from the Internet used to be easy. But with the music industry threatening punishment on file-sharing, the general management freshman said he won't be using swapping software anymore. "I was looking forward to KaZaA, but now they're cracking down on using it," Pilbeam said.

Knott injured

Junior tight end Eric Knott is listed as questionable for the upcoming Rutgers football game after an MRI revealed Tuesday that he had sprained a knee, MSU assistant athletic director John Lewandowski said.
