Abbas suggestion warrants two jokes

John O'Connor's recent column on the Palestinian conflict, "Road map politics further violence," (SN 9/5) ended with a cute comment suggesting that if Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas can't control extremists on his side, perhaps Israeli military action can do a better job. It reminds me of two jokes.

'The Order' a disappointing, slow religious thriller

After watching "The Order," filmgoers may do just that - order their money back. R&B artist treads on uninspired ground

Calvin Richardson's sophomore album, "2:35 PM," starts off with a bang and ends with a thud. The 12-song epic - about a crazy little thing called love - starts off with organs blasting and a desperate Richardson begging his girlfriend to stop pushing him around in the appropriately titled "Keep On Pushin'." The drum beat is simple and similar to almost all the CD's tunes, and Richardson has a nice falsetto voice, which will at first seem impressive.

Enrollment for online courses up

Faculty and students say the increase in online class enrollment at MSU this fall is likely because of the added flexibility they offer. Enrollment for courses offered both online and in traditional classrooms at MSU is up for the sixth consecutive year, but the number of exclusively online classes hasn't increased.

Common sense

Those green and white stickers in the dorm room which read "lock your doors" are there for a reason, but it looks like some people are not heeding the advice. MSU police reported 220 thefts during the first eight months of the year, a jump from 170 during the same time in 2002.

Fire department cuts jeopardize city

I love living in East Lansing. I love working and raising my children in East Lansing. I love being a graduate of MSU, but I hate what is being done to the fire department in East Lansing, of which I am a proud member.
