Spartans win tourney, pick up momentum

The No. 15 MSU volleyball team found its winning ways again, capturing the American Classic title over this past weekend in the nation's capital.Two wins on Saturday gave the Spartans a swing in recently lost momentum, as MSU lost two of three at a Nebraska tournament last weekend.

South Bend, Ind. - They took a 13-point lead into the final three minutes, and that's when the game veered off course. Like a recurring nightmare waiting to unfold, the MSU football team's opponent scored and set the Spartans up to field an onside kick.

Anti-discrimination policy on agenda for Academic Council

Budget reductions, a proposed amendment to the university's anti-discrimination policy and course and program changes will all be issues addressed at the MSU Academic Council's first meeting of the school year Tuesday.Provost and Interim President Lou Anna Simon said her report on the university will be more elaborate than normal because of McPherson's absence.

'U' officials: Virus attack could occur at any time

The MSU Computer Laboratory is warning students and faculty that another "virus storm" could strike campus at any time. Laboratory staff spent parts of the weekend scanning and securing campus networks in preparation for an attack on newly-discovered "vulnerabilities" in Windows operating systems.

How about they throw some of those millions going toward the Spartan Stadium renovation into a photocopying and technology budget so students don't have to sit in outdated computer labs reading 200-page course packets that have been scanned onto the Internet?

Thousands of hoop enthusiasts flocked to downtown East Lansing this weekend to christen the city's asphalt courts during the city's first 3-on-3 Howard Soifer Memorial Gus Macker Basketball Tournament.Albert Avenue was closed off from Bailey Street to M.A.C.

Drug Education

It's no surprise that college-age people party, but it's comforting that while MSU officials encourage responsibility, students are paying attention. The Office of National Drug Control Policy released a survey Tuesday which showed 21-year-olds are the leading group of 11 million people ages 12 to 65 who have driven under the influence of drugs.
