Go green, go white or go home. Saturday's game is unlike any other Spartan-Wolverine matchup from the recent past.

Backing Tony

As Lansing residents take to the polls Tuesday to choose a leader for Lansing, we hope they will consider voting for incumbent Mayor Tony Benavides.

MICHIGAN

Starkly different candidates might seem similar

Lansing mayoral candidates Virg Bernero and Tony Benavides both are Democrats. They both speak passionately about eliminating crime in the city and making sure kids stay in school, and they both feel that Lansing needs to make itself more attractive to small businesses and young people. On the surface, it would seem as though the two men disagree about very little.

Team breakdown: Rivals match up well, Spartans have slight edge

Quarterback This might be the most intriguing of all of the matchups, with both senior signal callers having taken much different roads to a successful final season. Group pickets anti-affirmative action initiative in Lansing

Large trees showering red and yellow leaves line Tulane Drive in north Lansing. The residential street is an unlikely location for a protest. But Thursday morning, a dozen protesters from By Any Means Necessary gathered at 2510 Tulane Drive to protest an anti-affirmative action petition. Being careful to follow Lansing police orders not to step on the lawn, members of the national affirmative action group circled the driveway of the two-story gray house. The house is the business office for National Petition Management, a petition-collection service contracted by Ward Connerly of the American Civil Rights Institute in California.

Navarre sheds critics, leads team in title hunt

No matter how much criticism and second-guessing John Navarre has faced during his time at Michigan, his coach is confident the senior quarterback's play will speak for itself when that time is up. "Well, you know, in seven, eight months, John Navarre is going to be making a hell of a lot more money than all those people who criticized him," U-M coach Lloyd Carr said. Though Navarre's future as an NFL quarterback remains uncertain, those within the Wolverines' football program don't doubt he is the right man to lead them toward its goal - a Big Ten championship. "From the outside, in the public eye, he is (under-appreciated)," junior tight end Tim Massaquoi said.

No. 8 Ohio State at Penn State Normally a key conference game, this season's Penn State-Ohio State game has a lackluster feel. Spartans, U-M boast special teams weapons

When No. 9 MSU and No. 11 Michigan go head to head this weekend in their traditional Big Ten smashmouth rivalry game, a bunch of kickers and return men might end up stealing the show. "I think this game might come down to special teams, whoever makes the bigger plays," said MSU junior linebacker Mike Labinjo, who plays on some special teams. "I think that we've got some good special teams, especially our kickoff return team." Spartans sophomore running back DeAndra Cobb is the only player in the nation to return two kickoffs for touchdowns this season. U-M's Steve Breaston continually breaks Big Ten and Wolverines records as a punt returner. "The guy I'm most impressed with is their return guy," MSU head coach John L.
