'S' is for success in Spartans win against Gophers

Hello boys and girls, the letter of the day is 'S.' S is for the Spartans, who beat the Minnesota Golden Gophers silly this past weekend. S is for score, as MSU scored 51 points, while the Gophers could only manage 17, less than a certain baseball team. S is for Stanton, as in Drew, MSU's sophomore quarterback who amassed a ridiculous 410 total yards in offense against the then-No.

Minnesota must forget U-M loss again to play Spartans

There is one parallel between MSU's matchup with Minnesota on Saturday and the Spartans' win against the Gophers last year that is working in MSU's favor. Minnesota lost its lead in the fourth quarter against Michigan last year the week before hosting MSU.

For the past eight years, Julie Fedewa and her husband have operated a 40-year-old family gas and service station, but elevated gas prices will force them to sell the store by the end of December. Please, give back Johnny Spirit's flag

As a fan and alumnus, I was disappointed last Saturday night. Our local superfan Johnny Spirit had his flag stolen off his bicycle for the second time this year. In all the years he has been here -since the early '90s - he has never "lost" one before. On Saturday evenings of home games, Johnny spreads his Spartan spirit throughout the local establishments and bars. In his green "S" suit and green and white striped boxers, he engages patrons with the familiar "Sparty on." His bike was parked and the flag and pole were stolen.

'Shall We Dance?' dodges Broadway cheese

It's not often that a film blends music, comedy and romance without actually tapping into the cheese-factor of a Broadway musical. "Shall We Dance?" does it, however, and does it well. Even though characters waltz, rumba and tango, and even though the film's title borrows from a Rodgers and Hammerstein song, the movie never digresses into those trite synchronized dance sequences where characters ham it up in front of the camera. The closest the film comes is during a scene where the song "Shall We Dance?" (from the 1951 musical "The King and I") is tastefully played during a beginners' night at a ballroom dance club. The moment brings smiles instead of cringes as the film lightly alludes to its title's inspiration. "Shall we Dance?" from director Peter Chelsom, is a remake of the acclaimed 1996 Japanese film "Shall we dansu?" That film won 13 awards from the Japanese Academy Awards, in almost every category in which it was nominated. The original warmed the hearts of U.S.
