Mobile quarterbacks lead teams similar on both sides of the ball

Chances are it won't be a defensive affair when the Spartans host Northwestern on Saturday, as the strategies and styles of the two teams practically mirror each other. The Wildcats, like the Spartans, are offensive minded and are capable of putting up points with a two-dimensional quarterback.

John Goss should pay more attention to game

This letter is just a thought I had about junior kicker John Goss' comments in "Missed chances" (SN 10/17). Goss said, "When they say 'field goal' I just run out there and do my job — I don't even think about what's going on.

High-profile losses not keeping MSU down

In the midst of studying for midterms and coming off a tough road trip where it dropped back-to-back matches, the MSU women's volleyball team is ready to get back in action during Homecoming weekend. MSU (9-9 overall, 2-6 Big Ten) takes on No.

New Sparrow lobby adds convenience to care

A new main lobby and emergency entrance opened to the public on Thursday at Lansing's Sparrow Hospital. The entrance, located on Michigan Avenue, is part of the first phase of the west wing building project at the hospital, said capital campaign Director Kevin Gray. ASMSU's Student Assembly voted 17 to 5 Thursday to recommend putting $1.6 million from MSU's state appropriation into scholarships based on financial need and merit. MSU originally planned to return the money to students as an energy fee rebate but the appropriation was not enough to do so. At ASMSU's retreat last weekend, Provost Kim Wilcox asked for suggestions by today on how to spend the money, representatives said.

Small price

Sometimes the best thing to do with a little extra cash is spend it rather than give it back. MSU received $1.6 million in additional appropriations from the state Legislature beyond what they expected.

Campaign elicits traffic on Web

Vague messages across campus are asking students, "Everything seems OK on the outside. But how are you really feeling?" The advertisements have been appearing almost everywhere this week — on fliers, the rock on Farm Lane and on sashes worn by students in animal costumes. The messages include a Web site, www.EverySpartan.com, but don't say who created it. Campus Crusade for Christ created the campaign but didn't place the organization's name on the advertisements.
