Turnout low for special primary

Turnout in Ingham County was about 7 percent for Tuesday's special Senate primary, while only 35 voters cast ballots on the MSU campus, according to the Ingham County Clerk's office. Jazz band to perform for dinner guests Fri.

The Black Student Alliance will host its annual Jazz Dinner at 8 p.m. Friday in the Lincoln Room of the Kellogg Center. "Souls of Black Folk" is the dinner's theme and the MSU Jazz Band will perform. Tickets are $10 for the event.

BREAKING NEWS: Gasoline, gun involved in assault on man in Hubbard

A non-MSU student was assaulted by three men in a Hubbard Hall room this afternoon. The men — one of which was armed with a handgun — poured gasoline onto the victim and assaulted him, MSU spokesman Terry Denbow said. No one was seriously injured, and all three suspects are in custody, Denbow said. There will be an informational meeting at 9 p.m.

Complaints of ID theft high

Michigan residents are filing more complaints about identity theft and consumer satisfaction, according to Attorney General Mike Cox. Complaints that include credit and financial concerns topped Cox's list of top consumer complaints in 2005, according to a report released in early February. Identity theft was frequently mentioned in complaints obtained by the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division. The office recovered $4.5 million in consumer refunds from complaints.

Human Ecology program to relocate this summer

Better collaboration among faculty and students will be possible with the Department of Family and Child Ecology's move to the College of Social Science this summer, faculty administrators said. The department, currently located in the College of Human Ecology, and its move is part of MSU President Lou Anna K.

Listen up, ladies and gentlemen. The Residence Halls Association, or RHA, is back in full swing this semester with a set of concerts guaranteed to leave you begging for more. After a lackluster fall semester devoid of big bands, RHA Special Events managed to cram five shows into one month. Grant Lyman, RHA Director of Special Events, describes this concert series as a historic event for MSU, sure to yield high attendance and satisfaction. Bills aim for farm regulation

Michigan House Republicans hope to help the state's agriculture industry by offering farmers incentives to meet environmental standards, representatives said Tuesday. The six-bill legislation package will allow farmers to enter a voluntary program that verifies the farmer is taking steps to prevent pollution. Task forces to reform Academic Governance

Five committees began working this semester to restructure the Academic Governance system, review administrators and academic programs, define the role of fixed-term faculty and improve communication within the system. To improve the presence of faculty input and voice in the Academic Governance system, the committees were formed last fall through Faculty Council. The idea for the committees came about last spring, after faculty members revealed their concerns about their input in important university decisions. Faculty members were upset with the administration following the release of then-Provost Lou Anna K.

Right-handed people need to be considerate of left-handed minority

I have finally come to terms with what makes me different from 90 percent of the population. After a multitude of art projects and papers smudged with partial handprints and far too many shirts with stained left sleeves, I have finally accepted the fact that I'm left-handed. It all started back in elementary school. It never failed.

Izzone, prosecutor continue investigating pregame fight

The Student Alumni Foundation is continuing the investigation into whether Izzone member Bobby Brock violated any of the student basketball section's policies. Brock was involved in an altercation with University of Michigan reserve center Amadou Ba on Saturday before the men's basketball game. Brock walked onto the court in front of Ba, who was seated side court, about an hour before the game.
