Snow limits student traffic

Leah Richmond is used to the cold, but the harshness of this week’s weather has left her feeling chillier than usual. “It can definitely get bad out when it snows a lot,” the East Lansing resident said. “But the last couple of days have just been bitter cold.”

MSU student wins contest, awaits trip to Super Bowl

In one year, Jared Knoodle will have been to more major sporting events than many fans get to attend in a lifetime. Knoodle, a turfgrass management senior, attended the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in San Francisco in July. As winner of the sixth annual Toro Super Bowl Sports Turf Training Program, he’s packing his bags for his next destination – Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Ariz.

Spartans seek to remain consistent throughout game

The MSU women’s basketball team will be taking extra care to put the ball in the basket tonight against Illinois. After making 4-for-21 3-pointers last Sunday and 24-for-60 in the field, MSU head coach Suzy Merchant has stressed getting to the boards and regaining confidence in the team’s shooting.

Breakdown

The MSU men’s basketball team erased most any doubt that they could play on the road this weekend, beating Minnesota 78-73 in Minneapolis. Now, the Spartans (16-2 overall, 4-1 Big Ten) travel to Northwestern (6-9, 0-5), looking to put another notch in their road belt. Don’t expect the environment at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill., to be too rowdy.

COMMENTARY

Splurging now bad for future

There they were. The most adorable shoes I’d ever seen for only $5 — regular price: $25. I had to have them. Then the guilt set in because I had promised myself I wasn’t going to buy anything, but I did anyway.

COMMENTARY

Poor decisions by drinkers not city's responsibility

I was appalled to read Jon Erickson’s column E.L. developments enable drunken driving offenses (SN 1/22). Although he so thoughtfully mentions at the end of his article that he “is in no way supporting or excusing drunken driving,” that seems to be exactly what he’s doing. Living farther from the bars is no excuse to drive drunk, period.
