Museum celebrates state's birthday

Museum volunteers dressed as European soldiers, past Michigan senators and immigrants toting suitcases were among those celebrating Statehood Day on Saturday at the Michigan Historical Museum, 702 W. Kalamazoo St., in Lansing.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has his own TV network, billions of dollars and an entire city to run. But while many political analysts have speculated Bloomberg could make a run for the presidency, it doesn’t appear MSU students would help him get into the Oval Office.

A shutout and a tie. The two polar opposites happened in a dramatic weekend series against No. 1 Michigan. The MSU hockey team blanked the Wolverines Friday at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor. The last time U-M was shut out at home was Feb. 28, 2003, and the Spartans were to blame.

The MSU gymnastics team is looking at a weekend loss to Michigan as a chance to improve its performance. The No. 23-ranked Spartans lost to the No. 6 Wolverines with a final score of 196.750 to 194.550.

Issues beyond actor's death

When I read about the death of Hollywood star Heath Ledger on the cover of Tuesday’s New York Times, I was shocked. Ledger’s death was not only a tragedy to his family, but also devastating to all of his fans who, like myself, are no doubt incredibly hurt by the loss of a man who made such amazing contributions to society.
