Discussion of Prop. 8 passage good for equal rights fight

In response to the previously published Tolerance needed for those who don’t support same-sex marriage (SN 11/18), I’ll simply begin by stating plainly what I’m sure many of you have may already concluded for yourselves: The authors clearly haven’t the slightest idea of what it means to be a victim of intolerance.

Big Three collapse hurts entire state

For the past week or so as I’ve walked to class or work, one question has dominated my thoughts: What will Michigan look like if the Big Three’s bailout doesn’t happen — an event that increasingly seems more and more likely.

MSU president's salary reasonable by comparison

It’s easy to jump to conclusions when you hear the higher-ups of any institution are getting raises in these times of economic turmoil. Visions of the “golden parachutes” and $100,000 spa retreats for CEOs of failing companies might come to mind because the news has been plagued with such stories in the wake of the Wall Street bailout.

Cold close to season

It was an eerie start to the game and an even weirder way for the season to end. The NCAA quarterfinal game between the MSU field hockey team and Iowa, postponed for weather reasons and finished Monday, started right where the game left off Sunday. No national anthem. No player introductions. They just started playing.

Soccer gets bye, No. 4 seed in NCAA

If it were basketball, the MSU men’s soccer team would be a No. 1 seed going into the NCAA Tournament. But because only 48 teams are selected for the tournament, the Spartans earned a No. 4 seed, which guarantees MSU home field advantage until the semifinals.

What is metabolism?

Metabolism is what fuels your body and gives you the ability to burn calories and burn fat, said Alicia Taylor, a certified personal trainer at New Life Fitness, 315 E. Jolly Road. There typically are an increased number of crashes when snow and ice descend on the roads, he said. “People haven’t adjusted their driving style — they keep their speeds,” Phillips said.
