A fire broke out Sunday night at the Trappers Cove apartment complex in Lansing, displacing more than 80 people from their homes, including many MSU students. Alison Bono, a spokeswoman for the Mid-Michigan chapter of the American Red Cross, said at least half of the residents living in the affected building are affiliated with MSU.
Police still are searching for a suspect or suspects who caused about $50,000 in damage by turning MSU’s W.K. Kellogg Biological Station into a slalom course by weaving a vehicle through marking tags set up as part of a research project, Barry Township police Officer Christopher Martin said.
Staff in the College of Education said a man attempted to steal a computer as a fire alarm sounded Saturday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The suspect allegedly came into the building during the alarm and attempted to steal a computer from the College of Education office.

A Sunday night apartment fire at the Trappers Cove complex has displaced about 80 people and remains under investigation, the Lansing Fire Department said. Trappers Cove is located southeast of MSU at the intersection of Dunckel and Jolly roads. A 21-year-old female MSU student said her wristlet was stolen April 18 after she left her dorm room unlocked, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. She said the student left the wristlet on her dresser in her Holmes Hall room. She left the room unattended with the door open while she went downstairs for an hour.
