Lansing BWL General Manager J. Peter Lark fired Tuesday

According to several reports, the Lansing Board of Water and Light fired General Manager J. Peter Lark on Tuesday for "just cause" on the grounds that Lark has failed to fulfill the requirements of his job. Reportedly, "just cause" in Lark's contract is synonymous with "employee misconduct."

Women's basketball looks to end losing streak

By Mayara Sanches msanches@statenews.com With the team's loss against Northwestern on Sunday women's basketball lost their fifth straight conference game. It's a record the Spartan women's basketball team is not too familiar with.  At least not in the last decade. Holding the longest streak, MSU has won 10 or more Big Ten games in the last 12 seasons, with a record of 140-58, second only to Ohio State during that span.

Izzo happy that the spring semester is starting

While students across campus may be slow to welcome the start of Spring semester, Tom Izzo is looking forward to it. “I think getting back focused in, getting in a routine, this was the longest period of time we’ve ever had off since I’ve been at Michigan State, a month,” Izzo said.

Freshman Jasmine Lumpkin leaves women's basketball team for personal reasons

Women’s basketball player Jasmine Lumpkin decided to leave the team due to personal reasons. The freshman’s decision is effective immediately, although she does not cite specific reasons of her termination. “We appreciate Jasmine’s contributions, and we wish her well in her future endeavors,” head coach Suzy Merchant told msuspartans.com. The guard and forward played 15 games this season, starting 14 of those times, she 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. MSU will return to the Breslin Center, without Lumpkin, when they host Illinois on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Newly renovated Akers dining hall opens after much anticipation

About 2,100 students were given a warm welcome Sunday evening when the newly renovated Akers dining hall , The Edge , opened for the first time since construction began in May 2014 . The Edge at Akers is the last of seven major renovations since the 2009 RHS Dining Master Plan including Brody Square , Riverwalk Market in Owen Hall, Holden Dining Hall, South Pointe at Case Hall, the Vista at Shaw and Heritage Commons at Landon, Communications Manager of Culinary Services in the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services Jenna Brown said.
