Iconic Wharton Center sculptor and art professor dies

Melvin G. Leiserowitz died peacefully at his home in East Lansing on February 5, 2015. Mel was an MSU art professor until from 1964 to 1991 and designed and constructed the “Orpheus” sculpture in front of the Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing.

Meet two of the TEDxMSU student speakers from the upcoming conference

What do a neuroscientist and a criminal justice activist have in common? They’ll both be speaking on Wednesday, March 4 at the TEDxMSU conference held in the Cobb Great Hall of the Wharton Center.  TEDxMSU is an event that was designed to inspire conversation and innovation among the MSU and greater East Lansing community in an attempt to emulate the environment at a TED conference.

MSU email on last legs, official says

The days of MSU's current email system are numbered, said MSU IT Vice President and Chief Information Officer Joanna Young during part of a presentation to the University Council Tuesday afternoon. Currently, every student, faculty, and even alumni are on the current email system.

UAB film festival winners reflect on accomplishments

Production began Sept. 21 and ran rather smoothly, Laimbeerka said. Barens was open to the idea for the film, and his parents were very cooperative. They provided childhood photographs and videos of, some of which can be seen in the film. As a producer, Laimbeer was in charge of scheduling and conducting interviews, along with ensuring all other parts of the film came together. This was his first time doing a voice-over for a film, and in order to prepare for the role he studied other sports documentaries.

Parking ordinances bring city significant revenue

For the city of East Lansing, parking revenue is the second largest annual source of operating revenue, behind only sewage user service charges. East Lansing sees more operating revenue from parking expenses than it does from charging its residents for water usage, according to city documents.

Letter to Editor by Jason Porter It’s the middle of the semester, you’re sitting in class completely lost, but you just can’t find the courage to raise your hand and stop a 500 person class to ask a question. Whether the professor is going too fast, you can’t understand the professor, or the material the professor is presenting just doesn’t make sense, you still manage to find yourself confused. Trust me, I have been there, and so have our fellow classmates.
