Gymnastics falls to Minnesota

In the annual annual Jan Howard Memorial Breast Cancer Awareness Meet the MSU women's gymnastics team the  Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday evening.  The Spartans began the night on the vault with junior Nicola Deans coming in first in the competition, while MSU was on the vault, Minnesota had a quality team performance on the bars.

Professor rating websites have impact on enrollment

Reviews on websites such as Koofers and Rate My Professors play a key role for students when determining which classes to take. However, professors tend to trust the results from SIRS forms more.

The politeness struggle is real

It’s rewarding to see a stranger smile or genuinely thank you for doing something nice for them. You feel good, that person feels good, and you have something to be happy about for the rest of the day. But being nice doesn't always work out the way you think it will. It can be awkward, embarrassing or even difficult.

Activism is a mindset, and one that more students need to embrace

Last week, while shooting pictures for the cover of The State News’ activism issue, I found myself having to approach students on the street and ask them the question, “why do you think that activism is important?” As I was met with many blank stares and puzzled expressions, I came to terms with a troubling realization: a large number of MSU students have no idea what the word ‘activism’ means.

MSU drops to 13-7 overall with 79-77 loss to Nebraska

A furious rally in the final minutes wasn't enough for MSU, and the Spartans lost to Nebraska, 79-77. The final score does not paint an accurate picture, as the Cornhuskers led almost the entire game and had the Spartans looking lost for much of the contest. MSU freshman forward Javon Bess provided an early spark for the Spartans, scoring his team’s first five points on aggressive drives to the rim.

Sophomore forward Gavin Schilling realizing potential this season for MSU

Sophomore forward Gavin Schilling was a monster for the Spartans Wednesday night, dunking with authority and cleaning up the boards to help propel the Spartans to a 66-60 win against Penn State.  Despite his eye-popping stat line —11 points and 10 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive end — he and head coach Tom Izzo discussed his tendency to go up for the ball with one hand after the game.
