The two are co-owners of Spicers Grill, the only food cart taking advantage of East Lansing’s food cart ordinance.

Theater renovations help MSU music students

The Fairchild Theatre, once home to music concerts and choral performances, now is filled with a very different production that involves the pounding of hammers, the shrill whir of buzz saws and the low-pitched yells of construction workers. Since the project began in summer 2013, the renovations to the Fairchild Theatre in the Auditorium have proven extensive and ever-growing, and they are expected to finish Oct.

Rivals come together

Going to the stadium and we’re gonna get married. For Darren and Andraya Kecskes, a chapel wasn’t going to do it. Darren, a Western Michigan University alumnus, and Andraya, an MSU alumna, originally planned a wedding for December, but when the football fans found out their alma maters were playing each other, they knew there was no better time.

Entering my freshman year at MSU has simultaneously been one of the most exciting, frightening and enlightening experiences of my life. Ele's Place starts Ultimate Spartan Challenge

After a successful 5K race on July 28 to raise money for Ele’s Place a center for grieving children and families, the organization now is asking MSU fans to show their Spartan spirit by participating in the second annual Ultimate Spartan Challenge. The online challenge allows individuals to create a web profile about why they are the “Ultimate Spartan” to compete for votes.

Faces of East Lansing

Beer, travel and music. These are three components of the many passions of Mark Sellers, the owner of HopCat, a bar that drew hundreds of people opening day. HopCat and its 100 craft beers on tap has added to the bar scene since its East Lansing opening last week. “We have all craft, no crap,” said Sellers, 45, with a chuckle. Both locations of HopCat have a recycling program.

Professors of jazz hold concert on campus

Jazz professor Randy Gelispie holds a single drumstick between his fingers and tap, tap, taps on the cymbal of his shining drum set. Rodney Whitaker, director of jazz studies at the College of Music, is picking away at the strings of his bass, wrinkling his brow in concentration. It’s 4:30 p.m., and the many professors of jazz are rehearsing their kick-off concert.

Face Time Adam West

As school kicked back into gear, Spartans saw a famed face Monday afternoon in Spartan Bookstore. Adam West, who is the voice of Mayor Adam West on the television show, “Family Guy,” and the Bruce Wayne and Batman characters in the 1960s television series, “Batman,” made an appearance to sign autographs, take pictures and meet fans.

One Book, One Community discusses war

The 2013 One Book, One Community novel selection is one East Lansing and MSU officials hope will get students and city residents talking about an often difficult subject: war. The program, which has been in place for the past 12 years, is designed to connect students and permanent residents through an often controversial novel.

World Dwarf Games close on a sentimental note

The conclusion to a three-year rivalry and hundreds of goodbye’s marked the final day of the World Dwarf Games. Two USA basketball teams, the Statesmen and the New York Towers, battled on court Saturday for the gold.
